Day trips
While we know that you will enjoy every moment of your time here in London we also encourage our students to take day trips around the UK to experience a different side of Britain. With the UK's extensive bus and rail network cities like Oxford, Cambridge, Bath and even York are easy to visit as a day trip from London. If you are here in London for a few weeks make sure that you take at least one trip out of London and discover more of the UK's culture and history.
Places to visit
Brighton
Just one hour by train from London, Brighton is the perfect place to escape for a day at the beach or a day of shopping. Brighton Pier offers all of the traditional seaside amusements including arcade games and fairground rides and during the summer the beach itself is packed with swimmers. Brighton is also known for its many cafes, bars and nightlife as well as its many wonderful boutique shops.
Oxford
This famous University town is known worldwide and should not be missed. Key attractions include the Asmolean Museum, the Bodleian Library and Christ Church Cathedral. Oxford can be reached easily from London by bus (with some services leaving once every ten minutes) or by train.
Stratford-upon-Avon
The birthplace of William Shakespeare, a visit to Stratford-upon-Avon is a must for any fan of his works. Many of the town's tudor buildings have been beautifully preserved making a visit in Stratford feel like a trip back in time to old England. You can reach Stratford-upon-Avon from London by train or by bus, it is also possible to combine a trip to Oxford with a visit to Stratford.
Cambridge
Take a punt along the river Cam in Cambridge! This historic University town is best seen from the river from where you can view the back of many of its most famous colleges. A visit to at least one college is also a must.
Stonehenge and Bath
While you can no longer take a swim in Bath's historic Roman baths this spa town is definitely still worth a visit! While the Roman baths are the towns most popular attraction it is also a popular destination for architecture lovers and shoppers and hosts a popular Christmas market every year. Many visitors combine a trip to Bath with a visit to Stonehenge, possibly England's most famous and most mysterious attraction.
