Focus on Hampstead people

What is your background?

Originally from 'sunny' Newcastle, I've always been fascinated by other languages and cultures.  I studies French and Spanish at university, before taking a Masters degree in Spanish and Catalan literature.  As part of my degree, I lived and worked as a British Council language assistant in Seville, Spain.  Travelling is a big passion of mine; I've been lucky enough to travel in India, China and Central America, and taught English in Mexico, Sri Lanka and the UK.

What do you like doing in your free time?

I'm currently writing an academic article on Catalan so any catalanes out there, feel free to come and help me out! grin  Apart from that I love exploring London with friends, strolling around galleries, walks in the park, independent cinema, and planning my next escape to Seville!

Do you speak any languages apart from English?

I speak Spanish, French and Catalan.

What is your typical day at the Hampstead School of English?

It's quite hard to say what is typical...the main thing I notice is how time flies when I'm busy with lots of bookings! It's great to see how many students want to study here.

What are the favourite aspects of your work?

Definitely meeting and getting to know our students and hopefully helping them to settle into London life.  As well as working with a wonderful team of people who are very friendly, professional and efficient.

What makes London and the Hampstead School of English such a positive experience for your students?

The warmth of the staff and the quality of the teaching make Hampstead School a wonderful place to be.  London is a vibrant, multi-cultural and accessible capital city and has something for everyone; the Queen lives here, and there are no less than four H&M shops on Oxford Street...grin
